I am My Electric Fan’s Biggest Fan

Ventilation comes cheap with an electric fan. It may not provide as much cool air as the air conditioner, but it certainly does enough to blow away warm days. In addition, using the device for a long time doesn't reflect on your electric bill. I have always been dependent on my old electric fan, in spite of having an aircon in my room. In fact, it is more dependable than some of the people I know.

The unit has been in my room for more than a decade.  It stood by my side when I was rejected by my first love.  Needing some ventilation, it made me feel refreshed after wearing a very warm toga during my college graduation.  The cool air it produced made me feel relaxed when I was rejected several times by companies that I would have loved working for.  The truth is, it has always been there, as if it was an inanimate sibling.  And the least I could do for it is give it a good cleaning, whenever necessary.

Cleaning the fan is easy.  The only things needed are a rag and a screwdriver.  Here is a rundown of my routine:

  1. I, first, open the fan's cover to expose the fan's blades.
  2. Using a moist rag, I wipe the dust and dirt off of the blades.
  3. The middle cap is twisted off, so the fan's rotator, which is located behind the blades, could be cleaned.  The blades of newer fans, on the other hand, may require a screwdriver to remove the blades.
  4. Remove dirt from the rotator with the moist rug.
  5. Wipe the blades and the rotator with the rag's dry portion until they dry.
  6. Return the blades and the fan's cover.

I have been following this routine ever since I took the chore from our maid's to-do list several years ago.  Until now, the electric fan is still purring like a vintage roadster.  I know, saddening as it is, the fan is bound to be replaced soon.  I'm just making the out of its remaining time with me.
