Now you are done decorating your home. The kitchen, living room, bathroom, and all bedrooms were all completed to perfection based on your original plan and style. You painted your bathroom yellow - to match the country-inspired theme you did in your living room. You even bought a 3-piece sofa (which forced you to eat affordable value meals for 15 days) to achieve a well-coordinate look.

Your bedroom is now a place to relax instead of its previous "Mad Max-Inspired Look". But as you pause and observe all the work involved, it is not yet a masterpiece that you can be proud of. It's not the way it's supposed to be. Something is not right but you just can't put your finger on it.

Just when you thought tomorrow is a time to celebrate, you suddenly lost all your confidence and all doubts were hovering atop of your head again.

Something is just jarringly wrong and it is unhinging the well-thought of design you had planned. Is it the console table your friend donated to your project? No, no the console table is wonderful! Maybe there's something wrong with the sofa? Nah, of course the sofa is just perfect!

I believe it's the door!

A lot of do it yourselfers, (including myself) or even some interior designers tend to take doors for granted. Well, in fact, almost everyone does. Try asking yourself when was the last time you thought of decorating or probably overhauling your door. Not that often for sure. Anyway, aren't doors supposed to be part of the fixed fixtures of our houses? So I thought too.

If this blog would somehow inspire you to find that perfect door for your house (exterior and interior), here are some options you may want to consider.

Keep the theme of your house in mind. If your house has that vintage feel, so should your door. Remember that in home decor, having that consistent approach always has its rewards. Your door shouldn't be any different and you must always consider your door type during conceptualization stages. This is something you should not neglect to achieve that look you are after.

Keep the style simple and let the wood speak for itself. Do not exaggerate. Instead, let the beauty of the wood naturally show. And if you think adorning your door with fancy knocker or knobs is a sure knock out, think again. Unless you and everyone around you were born during the Victorian Era, this style is so out-dated. In music, this is probably Debbie Gibson singing Electric Youth nowadays in Hard Rock Cafe. Can you just imagine?

Then there are those who are fond of decorating their front doors with so many items. While hanging Santa's face on your main door is not a crime, make sure it stays posted during Christmas season ONLY - and not the entire year (I hope my neighbour at the 17^th floor gets to read this). Or if you want to post bills like, "Globe Auto Load Available Here", do not let your 3-year-old son write the advertisement.

If possible, keep all business related bills posted on your door presentable and professional.

Our doors shouldn't be that boring. The door is the first thing our visitors see as they enter our house. Aside from making sure it's clean, it should blend well with the overall design of your house, especially the facade. A door that looks oh-so-wrong would of course, not be that inviting to go through.

Doors are an essential part of our daily lives. We go through one every single day. Try not to ignore them. The next time you open and close a door, try to observe its details and purpose (as we all do with clothes people wear each day).
